Finding a Great Campground in Ohio

Finding a great campground at a great price can be challenging.

Finding one that has availability can be downright frustrating at times. In our travels we like to be flexible. We want to be able stay longer if we like a place or leave early if we just want to move on. This means we don’t make reservations. This has its ups and its downs.

Because we choose not to plan to far in advance, more often than not we just show up and hope for the best. So far this has, for the most part, worked out for us. We tend to look for campgrounds that don’t even accept reservations or are not easily reserved online.

Ohio had some really great city park campgrounds that met our needs perfectly.

Silver Springs Campground in Stow Ohio is located very close to Cuyahoga Valley National Park which was one of our reasons for choosing it. The rate of $12/night for power hook-up, water fill station, a dump site, reasonably priced firewood, near a playground (which was awesome), and close to the national park made it a great deal. It is only $10 for Ohio residents. The sites are grassy and not quite level, but for the price and quiet surroundings it is well worth it.

Just outside Columbus we were able to find another great city park with RV spaces.

Pastime Park in Plain City Ohio had many sites . Some of which are reserved for first come first serve only, which means no reservations required. We showed and were able to easily get a site with power and water hook-ups. They also have a dump station available and a playground, and in the summer they have a wonderful looking pool facility (we did not use it as it was closed for the season). Their rate was $20/night  when we visited, which was very reasonable for the area. The sites were also grassy but more level and very easy to get into.

Ohio was a great place to visit and stay in our RV. There are many campgrounds to stay in throughout the state. For us the city parks were conveniently located, had great rates, and were very accommodating to our no reservations way of life. I would definitely recommend looking into them if you are planning to be in the area with your RV. Safe travels!

Here are links and more pictures for the camps we visited. We were not compensated or given discounts by these camps, we stayed at a total of four camps while visiting Ohio. These two camps were just excellent and we wanted to share them with our fellow travelers.
